One of today’s most inventive and influential rock bassists, Les Claypool is best known for his trademark voice and eclectic fretwork that brought the band Primus into popularity in the ‘90s. Claypool has a kind of talent that doesn’t really fit in anywhere but just a little bit everywhere. His unmistakable style mixes heavy-metal finger-tapping, flamenco-like strumming, and a Larry Graham-like slap technique. Claypool’s other projects such as The Flying Frog Brigade, C2B3, and Oysterhead have reached success with metalheads, jam-banders, funk connoisseurs and earned the respect of every other genre in between. He has also recently written a book and released a feature length film, Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo. The movie is a mockumentary of the jam band scene centered on fake band Electric Apricot. Claypool’s oddball sense of humor and funky playing keep fans wanting more of his strange melodic genius. In 2006 he released “Of Whales and Woe,” the first project solely credited to Claypool himself. Though previous "solo" efforts were issued under a variety of monikers, these new recordings are the most self-contained to date. Look for his new studio album “Of Fungi and Foe” in stores now.
