Alice in Chains is one of the most influential American rock bands of the early ’90s. Drawing equally from the heavy riffing of metal and the gloomy strains of post-punk, the band developed a bleak, nihilistic sound that balanced grinding metallic riffs with subtly textured acoustic numbers. They were hard enough for metal fans, yet their dark subject matter and punky attack placed them among the front ranks of the Seattle-based grunge bands.
After the death of lead singer, Layne Staley, the band took a hiatus, eventually reuniting and casting the vocalist for Comes With the Fall, William DuVall, as lead singer during the band’s reunion concerts. DuVall and has remained with the band. In September 2009 the band released their first studio album since 1995. The album is called ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ and is a surprisingly good album and has been received worldwide with good criticism. During the last months of 2009 they toured Europe and almost everywhere the shows were sold out.
