Adrian Belew is well-known for his diverse travels around the musical map ’ he first appeared on the guitar-world radar when he joined Frank Zappa’s band in 1977, touring the USA and Europe. Adrian’s signature tones and influences are all over Zappa’s movie “Baby Snakes” as well as his biggest-selling album “Sheik Yerbouti”. His musical use of effects and whammy bar remains unique, and his techniques continue to be a huge influence on scores of guitarists.
From the late 70s to today, Adrian has toured and collaborated with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, Paul Simon, and Nine Inch Nails, with whom he has appeared on three CDs, including the new, runaway-hit “Ghosts I-IV”. Since the early 80s, Adrian has released over 20 albums, both solo and with The Bears, and for the same 27 years he has been the lyricist, voice and co-guitarist (with Robert Fripp) of progressive rock legends KING CRIMSON. In between touring, writing, recording and receiving a plethora of guitar magazine awards, Adrian has always found time for producing other artists and releasing his own songs and sonic experiments........................................
At the heart of Shortwave Society’s musical landscape lies songwriter, guitarist, and lead vocalist, Grant Geren. His willingness to delve into unconventional song structures, coupled with his knack for surreal lyricism, gives the band’s music its unique emotional identity. Pianist and arranger Jason Day augments these contributions. Day’s extensive jazz background floats subliminally behind his arrangements, drawing equally from classical, pop, and music from around the world. The project is advanced by Curtis Geren; a perpetual student of percussion instruments and electronic music. Cellist Alexia Pantanizopoulos and violinist Sarah Hurd complete the circle, adding the essential chamber music element.
