General Discussion: Favorite concert venue

The Tennessee is tight for big-production shows...it's so magnificent...but for a singer/songwriter or an indie rock group the acoustics in the Bijou are just ridiculous. I'm a big fan locally of Pres Pub and World Grotto because the local bands I like usually play there.

Oh, and the Blue Plate, how can i skip that?

And outta town I really like the Down Home in Johnson City. It's a restaurant bar where you can have some high-quality Mexican food, great beer, but everybody actually shuts up and listens to the band.

Carter's Fold in Hiltons, Va. is pretty sick as well. Clogging floor, popcorn machine, oh yeah, and it's in a barn?

I am really intrigued by this new venue Valarium. It is opening up in the same building that the electric ballroom was in.
They used to get some really great shows there back in the day. I hope that they can get some of the larger rock acts that aren't really appropriate for the TN Theatre or Bijou and are too big to play Blue cat's.

down home owns in JC, yo.

I saw Belly at the Electric Ballroom circa 1993! It was awesome. I hope the Vallerium also has some cool shows and draws some bigger bands than Blue Cats. I also hope they do some good improvements to the structure and sound and bathrooms. If you've been to the Orange Peel in Asheville, you know how cool and nice a big box type of club can be.

Dinosaur Jr is playing at the Valarium for its grand opening 11/29. That should be a good place to see J. Mascis melt some faces with his guitar.

dino jr izz some ill tunez. hope j & lou can hode it 2gether...love that git, tho. either way itz gonna be a fun ride.

they still have the dancin' cages thurr?

The Tennessee is Absolutely Gorgeous, but the Bijou for me is the best becuase it is more intimate and provides an unparalled concert experience. Not to mention the acoustics are fantastic!!

Sorry I mispelled 'because,' it wouldn't let me edit it! muah!

i've never seen anywhere more beautiful than the TN theatre. the first time i went there i saw maya angelou speak, and i was blown away. however, for a good time, i usually prefer the op in asheville....and i'm getting totally pumped for the valarium to open.

I love Red Rocks in Colorado just for the pure atmosphere . . . but I have to say that the best sounding venue is the Bijou in Knoxville!

'Course, I also love the Ryman.

i've always wanted to go to red rocks. one of my co-workers recently moved to that area. i think she actually broke her ankle back stage at a red rocks show...or it could have been somewhere else. i also really want to check out the gorge.

dude, house paaaarty shows pwn, gettin' all sweaty wit the dudes. my bro played at mama jan's on mkt^2 the other day, heady new shop near the sundown stage, dude over there is one cool mammajamma.

this valarium thing sounds awesome. I'm pumped such a good space will no longer be going to waste. I've only lived here for about 6 yrs, but I've heard they used to have a bunch of bad ass shows there back in the day. I'm hoping we get some bigger nat'l touring acts that are too big for blue cat's, but not quite ready for the bijou.

valarium = orange peel for k town??

(i hope so)

i've been dying for something comparable to the OP, so i hope so, too.

Red Rocks Ampitheatre is beautiful, especially w/ STS9 playing! The Taft Theatre in Cincy's nice, Horning's Hideout in North Plains, OR is incredible

Of course the Ryman, TN, and Bijou are on the list!

Don't see the valarium being knoxville's Orange Peel, nah I'd compare the valarium to the Cat's Cradle, Carrborro NC
