General Discussion: Grammy broadcast

Did anyone else watch the Grammys last night? Not as much of a trainwreck as I thought. Even Amy Winehouse performed well and held it together. She is just fascinating to look at. Her very public drug adventures have overshadowed how awesome a CD Back to Black really is, but I hope the four Grammys will bring more attention to the music. Kanye's performance was lackluster, although I'm willing to believe he is still recovering from his mom's death. My two favorite parts: Beyonce and Tina Turner doing "Proud Mary," and Herbie Hancock and that other pianist doing Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the full orchestra. Overall, big ups for Grammys 2008, although the broadcast was waaaaay too long, and our reception of CBS was crappy--fuzzy sound and fuzzier picture. Dunno if I should just blame Knology or what.

Amy Winehouse looked better than I expected. Her face when she won was just classic, too. (Although, thanking her "incarcerated baby Blake" was a white trash moment I could have done without.) I hope she can get cleaned up; it would be such a waste of talent otherwise.

While Kanye was a bit of a disappointment, I was thrilled to see Daft Punk. I love those guys.

We were commenting that the musical guests/performances were some of the best they'd had in years. I wonder if that was just because it was the 50th anniversary, or if the writers' strike had something to do with it? There was a definite lack of so-called "witty" banter this year.

i didn't watch it but i happened to catch all the musical performances on youtube.
i thought Kanye and daft punk were awesome. probably the best grammy performance i have ever seen.
as a matter of fact i am going to watch it again right now!
