MTV has reported that singer Beyonce Knowles will portray legendary blues singer Etta James, performing live at the Tennessee Theatre on Wednesday, April 9, in a new movie about Chicago's thriving music scene in the 1950s. In London, Beyonce has already been spotted in her Etta James outfit, sporting a short blonde wig. Etta James has long been revered by female singers, including Christina Aguilera, who has called James her idol on multiple occasions. "Etta is my all-time favorite singer," Aguilera told MTV News in 2006. "I mean, all of Etta's old songs, countless songs I could name, I grew up listening to.
